Trinity Arts Series
TRINTY ARTS SERIES, a program of Trinity Episcopal Church of Torrington, Connecticut, was officially founded in January 2001, but had an active Music Committee that sponsored various musical events at the church starting in May 1996.
TRINITY ARTS SERIES MISSION:
The Trinity Arts Series of Trinity Episcopal Church in Torrington CT is one component of Trinity’s programs to engage the people of the Greater Torrington community in a dialogue of mutual respect and support. Through programs of an eclectic variety of the visual and performance arts with professional and non-professional artists, Trinity Arts Series seeks to build with the larger community a mutual enjoyment of the arts and cultural exchange and an appreciation of the diversity of that community. The programs are held in Trinity Church buildings which are on Connecticut’s Register of Historical Places and a local landmark.
TAS Programs:
TAS offers an eclectic variety of the visual and performance arts.
Over the past few years our series included The Sound of New England, an award winning women’s barbershop chorus, Timothy Wallace and Nicholas White in a piano/organ concert, a Three King’s Day Celebration with jazz band, Island Rhythm, a Coffee House with Robert Fullerton and Friends, and an organ concert with Douglas Major, former organist at the Washington National Cathedral.
Additional concerts have included Paul Bissacia, pianist, Tierney Sutton, Sirius Coyote, St. Luke’s Steel Band, Anonymous Four, Baltimore Consort, Theresa Thomason, Chris Norman Ensemble, and a Medieval Banquet. Other non musical events have included several Shakespearian plays, chancel plays, ballet, art displays, photo exhibits, Victorian Tea, and wine and chocolate tasting
TAS Funding:
Funding for TAS programs includes grants, private donations, and ticket sales.
For some events, admission to is offered on a free-will donation basis to enable all persons to enjoy the programs.
TAS Committee Membership:
TAS committee membership is open to all persons interested in helping to plan and to bring to fruition this outreach ministry through the arts for the people of Trinity Parish and the larger community. Meetings for planning and business are usually once a month except for the summer months. Call the church office at 860-482-6027 for more information.
PROGRAM OFFERINGS FOR 2011 -2012
The 2011-2012 season begins with our annual Three Kings Day Celebration on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 7:30 PM featuring the Fiesta del Norte, a Mariachi band.. Come and clap, dance and maybe join a conga line.
On Friday, May 11, 2012, 7:30 PM we are having our Seventh Annual Memorial Organ Concert with John Rose, internationally known organist, who has performed at St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in London, and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He has been College Organist at Trinity College, Hartford, since 1977, and has recorded 15 CD and LP albums. You may make a memorial contribution in honor of or in memory of a loved one, whose name will be listed in the program.
The final event of the season will be a special concert by Joyful Noise on Saturday, May 19, 2012, 7:30 PM, featuring Chorus Angelicus and Gaudeamus.
